I usually do not read romance YA, but I heard so many good reviews so I decided to give it a shot and I'm glad that I did! It was great!
Synopsis: When Brittany Ellis walks into chemistry class on the first day of senior year, she has no clue that her carefully created “perfect” life is about to unravel before her eyes. She’s forced to be lab partners with Alex Fuentes, a gang member from the other side of town, and he is about to threaten everything she's worked so hard for—her flawless reputation, her relationship with her boyfriend, and the secret that her home life is anything but perfect.
I did not expect this at all! It was a really good book! I felt that not only was a romance, but something much more. There were life lessons learned and I think that's what makes it different. The characters were really awesome. When I first started reading about Brittany I thought, "Oh this is just going to be another pretty, perfect life, spoiled girl" but Brittany wasn't like that at all. I really started to like her throughout the book. She was not flat or one dimensional at all. The other main character was Alex. Again there was the stereotype about him being bad, scary guy in a gang who likes to do drugs and shoot stuff. There was so much more to his character than people realize. Overall, I loved both characters and how they were really dimensional and real.
The writing in this book was done well. I liked how each chapter switched from Alex to Brittany and vice verso. Each chapter flowed into the next very nicely. Also, this book was so much more than a romance. It made you think and had realistic problems. There were gangs in this book and it sounded very real. It was frightening!
The very end of the book was so cheesy but so cute. It was a ironic way to end the book, but I liked it. :)
Overall, This book was so addicting!!!! I can't wait to read to ones that follow about the other Fuentes brothers. The only thing I don't really like is the covers of not just this one but the following books. I didn't want to read these books in public no matter how good they are!
Overall Rating:
9.6/10
